Polish champion asks fans for help. “My situation is hopeless”
Konrad Gałka took part in the Olympic Games twice. At one time he was considered one of the best Polish swimmers. Now he has serious health problems.
Konrad Gałka has eight gold medals in Polish championships. He also managed to shine on the international stage. He competed in the Olympic Games twice (1992, 1996). In 1995, during the European Championships in Vienna, he won silver in the 200-meter butterfly. It was in this event that he specialized, and it is not without reason that he is considered one of the best Polish competitors in history in butterfly swimming.
Konrad Gałka asks for help
In recent months, Gałka has had serious health problems. He had to give up his job at the swimming pool. He decided to start a collection on Pomagam.pl, where he describes that he has already been resuscitated twice due to heart and lung failure.
In his daily life, the former swimmer has to use an oxygen concentrator, a CPAP machine and a mask. He also mentioned that he will have surgery on his right hand in a month due to nerve damage. As he himself said, he currently has a deficit of 5 thousand złoty and turned to fans for help.
“I won’t hide the fact that my situation is difficult, you could even say hopeless. As of today, I have a deficit of over PLN 5,000. I am paying off an oxygen concentrator, medications are around PLN 500-600 per month. I’m not talking about ‘normal’ everyday functioning. If anyone would like to help me in any way, I am eagerly awaiting your kindness and involvement in this matter,” Gałka wrote in the description of the fundraiser.
