Do you know names such as Wolin, Uznam and Karsibór? Each of them hides a different island in Poland, which boasts many attractions.
Cities with canals and islands intrigue lovers of travel and romance. We are looking for them, among others: in Italy, starting from Venice, ending with Amsterdam in the Netherlands or Fort Lauderdale in Florida. We often forget that Poland also hides interesting gems, and sometimes, even though we visit them, we are not aware of their attractions. This is what happens with Świnoujście. It is the only city in Poland located on 44 islands. They are even called an archipelago.
A Polish city on 44 islands
When you hear the name Świnoujście, you imagine wide beaches, a port, a famous lighthouse, a promenade full of restaurants and stalls, and spa sanatoriums. However, you don’t think about the picturesque islands of this place, and that’s a big mistake. Although only 3 out of 44 are inhabited, it is still worth knowing about them and including them in your sightseeing plan.
No city in Poland will offer you such an atmosphere, because Świnoujście is the only archipelago in our country. It is full of canals, lush nature, but also monuments. Moreover, it enjoys a long history and traditions, which are often known mainly to the locals.
This is what the inhabited islands of Świnoujście offer
The inhabited islands of Świnoujście, i.e. Uznam, Wolin, and Karsibór, are unique in many respects. Importantly, only the first of these is divided between two countries, i.e. Poland and Germany – they own 84%. surface. The rest are exclusively Polish.
Usedom, teeming with life, offers nature reserves and landscape parks full of rare bird species. You will also see cliffs, pine forests and sandy beaches there. Karsibór is only 11 square kilometers and the area is dominated by peace and the houses of local fishermen.
A completely different atmosphere prevails on the island of Wolin – the Wolin National Park is just one of many attractions, and the inhabitants are scattered in various towns. Even though you are there by the sea, you will also see Lake Czajcze and Lake Domysłowskie, which have a unique climate. Turquoise Lake is also a hit, and you can drive around it. Other attractions of the island include: the Piaskowa Góra viewpoint, the Slavic and Viking Center, and Grodzisko Lubin and Wzgórze Zielonka.
The remaining 41 islands of the archipelago are small and unsuitable for development. This includes: that’s why no one leads a life, but animals and nature have paradise.
