Polish anglers set a new world record. This was the length of a giant catfish
Poles set a new Polish and world record! They pulled a common catfish of unimaginable length from the Rybnik Reservoir. The proof is a photo, and certainly also many other pieces of evidence available to Krzysztof Pyra, Adrian Gontarz and the Polish Fishing Academy.
To break the world record in this category, you had to catch a catfish longer than 285 cm. Weight or other dimensions were not important.
The largest European catfish (Silurus glanis) to date was caught in the first half of 2023 by an Italian citizen, Alessandro Biancardi. He pulled the giant out of the Po River – the largest and longest in the country. He broke the record previously set by the German Stefan Seuss, whose fish was four centimeters shorter in length.
The Italian’s achievement, although forever etched in the history of world fishing, no longer makes such an impression when we compare the sum of the catch caught two years ago with the specimen that the Poles pulled out between October 18 and 19 from the Rybnik lake (Silesia) created for the purposes of the power plant.
A new Polish and world record. Anglers pulled an almost 3-meter giant catfish out of the water!
On Saturday and Sunday, our compatriots took part in spinning competitions (this method involves constantly casting and retrieving artificial bait). A two-person team competed for the Mikado Cup. During the event, members of the Polish Fishing Academy pulled a huge catfish out of the water, as much as 292 cm long. This means they left Biancardi, his fish and his record far behind. Their specimen is seven centimeters longer!
Mikado Total Fishing also mentioned the matter on Facebook. It’s real “outer space!” – comments the company that offers fishing equipment.
It is also worth writing about the struggles of anglers. In an interview with sport.pl, they agreed to reveal a few details – it turns out that they fought with the fish for over an hour and a half! – When we finally saw it, we couldn’t believe it: a huge, huge fish, with a head like a shop – a real monster! When we measured it, it turned out that it was 292 cm long and was not only a new Polish record, but also a world record, Pyra said in an interview.
“This is how you build a legend!”
The fishing community is impressed – the photo of the catfish published by PAW received over four thousand reactions (likes, hearts and emojis expressing surprise).
“This is how you build a legend. Bravo!” – this is one of the many comments under the photo.
