Wrocław is preparing for a gigantic expansion of its airport. For this reason, the port will be closed for over a month.

One of the most popular Polish airports will be closed to passenger traffic for over a month. From October 26 to December 4 next year, the Wrocław International Airport will be closed. The reason is the planned expansion of the airport, which is to help the city welcome even more tourist traffic. In the capital of Lower Silesia, among others, a new apron for aircraft, a new taxiway and a de-icing apron.

Wrocław closes its airport

Next year, Poles will not be able to use the airport in Wrocław for 40 days. As announced by the president of the Wrocław airport, no one will be able to buy tickets for this period. However, there is no reason to panic. This is not the result of problems, but of the planned expansion of the airport, which will improve passenger travel in the future. “If we want to continue to grow, and we do, we must be ready to accommodate more air traffic. Therefore, over the next 26 months, a new apron for 12 aircraft, an expressway, a new 2.5 km long taxiway and a de-icing apron will be built. Additionally, we will renovate previously used taxiways. The total cost will be almost PLN 377 million net, of which PLN 175 million will come from EU funding. This is the largest aviation investment with EU funding in all of Europe,” explains Karol Przywara.

The exact dates of the renovation were given

No planes will land or depart from Wrocław from October 26 to December 4, 2025. “We are talking about it in advance so that everyone can prepare for this period. We will do everything to ensure that this period passes as smoothly as possible and has the least impact on passengers’ plans,” adds the president of the airport. Today, the city signed an agreement with representatives of the Strabag company, which will be responsible for carrying out the work. “The mood is optimistic, especially since it is enhanced by the prospect of securing growth for at least a dozen or so years after the completion of the investment,” we read in Wrocław.pl. This is not the only Polish airport that will be expanded in the future. Similar plans also apply to Chopin Airport in Warsaw.
