Poles on subsidies for housing loans. Surprising survey results

Klucze do nowego mieszkania

Almost half of Poles believe that the introduction of a government subsidy program for housing loans will improve the situation of people who want to buy a house or apartment – according to a survey by United Surveys for RMF FM and Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

It is still unknown what the fate of the government’s mortgage subsidy program (known as “0% credit” or “#naStart”) will be. The Ministry of Development and Technology wants to pass a law on this matter this year, so the program came into force in mid-January next year. However, this issue is causing disputes within the coalition.

How do Poles approach the program? This was checked by the United Surveys studio, which asked Poles in a survey for RMF FM and Dziennik Gazeta Prawna whether “the introduction of the housing loan subsidy program will improve the situation of people who want to buy a house or apartment?” Over 46% of respondents answered in the affirmative, of which 15.6% said it would “definitely improve” the situation of people who intend to buy their own apartment, and 30.6% said it would “rather improve”. Almost 37% of respondents had the opposite opinion, of which almost 17% of respondents indicated the option “definitely worsen” and 19% “rather worsen”. Almost 18% of survey participants do not know or cannot clearly state what impact the loan subsidies will have on the market.

The survey shows that the subsidies are supported by the same number of supporters of the ruling camp as the opposition (45 percent). The negative impact of the subsidies on the possibility of buying one’s own apartment is indicated by every third supporter of the groups forming the government and 43 percent of opposition voters.

Credit subsidies enjoy the greatest support among respondents aged 40-49 (69%). The least enthusiasm was shown by respondents aged 70 plus (10%).

The situation is most likely to improve after the introduction of subsidies among respondents from cities with up to 50,000 inhabitants (56%), while the least likely are respondents from cities with 50,000 to 250,000 inhabitants (37%).

The United Surveys poll for RMF FM and “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” was conducted on 14-15 September on a sample of 1,000 people using the online mix-mode method and standardised computer-assisted telephone interviews (CAWI / CATI).
