Not all places in warm countries are safe for tourists now. When it comes to Spain, a recent threat has appeared, among others: in Malaga and the surrounding area, where a lot of mosquitoes spreading West Nile virus (WNV) have been recorded. Now there is a lot of talk about inconveniences on one of the beaches of the Canary Islands. Are you flying to Lanzarote? Watch out for this.
The beach in Lanzarote is closed
Playa del Reducto beach, popular among tourists, has been closed in Lanzarote. This is the main recreational point in the city of Arrecife, along which there is a promenade with numerous shops, bars and restaurants. We will not be able to enter the site at this time because it is suspected that sewage has been detected in the water.
The closure of the beach was announced on Wednesday, October 15, after the day before pollution and bacteria were detected – their number far exceeds the permissible standards. Further water tests are planned. Only when the results are known will Arrecife authorities decide whether to reopen the site. According to representatives of this place, similar incidents with sewage have occurred there before.
There were concerns that old sewage infrastructure may be to blame. The authorities of the Spanish city have initiated proceedings in this case against the Water Consortium (Consorcio del Agua de Lanzarote) and its company managing the water supply network Canal Gestión Lanzarote.
Tourists must be vigilant
The Canary Islands are very popular among tourists, including those from Poland. In autumn we like to choose, among others: Tenerife, Lanzarote or Fuerteventura to escape from the cold temperatures. Currently, you can count on a lot of sun and temperatures ranging from 21-25 degrees. This is perfect weather for a quiet holiday. However, before departure, it is worth checking whether we will definitely use the popular attractions in a given place, otherwise we will be disappointed.
Currently, entering the water may pose a threat to the health of vacationers.
Instead of Playa del Reducto beach, you can choose other beaches considered the most beautiful on the island. A good choice may include, among others: Playa de Papagayo, Playa Flamingo or Playa El Jablillo.
