Poles have no chance in ski jumping. “I don’t see any reason for this to happen”

Kazimierz Długopolski, a former ski jumping coach, presented a bitter perspective for Poles. According to the expert, there is no point in counting on their success.
It must be admitted that the previous World Cup season was far from ideal. Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła and Dawid Kubacki – more than about successes – wondered more and more each week why things were going so badly. The leader of the team in the winter part of the competition unexpectedly became the much less known Aleksander Zniszczoł.
Kazimierz Długopolski on the crisis of Polish ski jumping
In the recent summer, Paweł Wąsek was the best Pole, even winning the general classification. We can therefore admit that “new things are coming” in the Polish national team. However, to be completely honest with reality, the Summer Grand Prix was not the most heavily contested competition. Unfortunately, the remaining Polish jumpers were unable to shine even in such conditions.
Wąsek has achieved his success, but will it translate into winter jumping? The above-mentioned Długopolski has no doubts, looking at the overall profile of the Polish team.
– If after a very average summer someone starts them, I will be positively surprised. At this age, positive surprises are hard to come by. I see it all in black. Stoch, Żyła and Kubacki will probably think about ending their careers soon. They can still afford to shine in individual competitions, but it may be very difficult to regularly jump at the highest level. For now, I see no reason to believe that this will succeed (…) A year ago, we learned this the hard way. I believe that if things were to improve, we would already see the light at the end of the tunnel. In my opinion, we will have to wait a long time for further successes, at least three years – admitted a former coach and ski jumping expert in WP/SportoweFakty.
