Poles got stuck at the airport for 15 hours. A nightmare end of holidays in Greece
Tourists have already convinced many times about the fact that holidays with a travel agency do not always guarantee full comfort. Now the troublesome situation has affected Poles in Greece. Former MP Marek Łapiński appealed to Itaka.
For many compatriots it was supposed to be a peaceful return from vacation home. It turned out to be not that easy. They had to wait several hours for the plane from Sunday, August 10. The situation occurred on the well -known tourist island of Crete in Chania. Poles were to fly to Wrocław at 20:50, but this did not happen. They stayed at the airport until Monday, August 11 – a total of 250 people. The former marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodship and MP Marek Łapiński took the floor. “@Itaka or will you provide a safe plane from Chania in Crete to Wrocław? Tourists are already 24 hours outside the hotels and 15 hours are waiting at the airport. Any information?” – we read in the post of politics on the X. platform.
Poles got stuck at the aviator in Greece
Onet.pl mentions the difficult situation, citing Łapiński’s internet posts. A few hours ago, a politician said that tourists from Poland are camping at the airport in Chania in Crete. The flight to Wrocław with Smartwings for ITAKA clients has not been implemented. It is only known that the next planned departure hours have changed. “Who will take responsibility for this?” – asked MP on Platform X.
Passengers were put in a very difficult situation. Among the victims, there were families with children. “The airport service tried to get rid of us and without any information to evoke outside the terminal. The intervention of the embassy in Athens helped. What we do not know next …” – one of the Internet users said in social media.
There were rumors that the reason for the problems was a technical failure. However, the information has not been confirmed. At the moment it is known that travelers received the opportunity to use the voucher for the night, but some gave up and decided that they would wait for a departure in the hall. Many pointed out that they received the voucher at night, and the implementation of it at this time was troublesome later.
Passengers should be on the way
According to Onet.pl, the aforementioned problem was confirmed by the ITAKA travel agency. “Aircraft from Chania to Wrocław on 10.08.2025 with the planned outlet hour 20:50 for operational reasons was delayed,” commented representatives of the travel agency. “Passengers received vouchers for meals and later the possibility of booking accommodation. The costs associated with this will be reimbursed by the Smartwings airline on the complaint.
It is known that the flight to Wrocław was planned again at 11.10 local time, which means that tourists should already be on the way to Poland. We asked the travel agency to confirm whether everything went according to plan. At the moment we have no new news.
