Norwegia

Tourists in Norway are increasing and we will start to feel the consequences. Although this country is not cheap for Poles now, it will be even more expensive. Local authorities announced a new tax.

You do not have to pay tourist tax in Norway at the moment. Despite this, many people now give up a trip there because of the excessive prices of accommodation or meals. Low airline often offers promotional tickets, including To Oslo, but ultimately the whole journey is quite expensive anyway. After the announced changes come into force, it can be even worse.

Tourist tax in Norway

While for some – including Poles – the prices of stay in Norway are high, they are not a problem for other groups of tourists. It turns out that visitors are still coming, which began to worry about the inhabitants. The Norwegians have long been thinking about introducing a tourist tax, thanks to which one could earn on frequent visits of people from abroad. The introduction of changes has now been approved.

The information is shared by the AFP agency. For fear of overloading tourist infrastructure in Norway, it was decided to introduce a 3 % accommodation tax. This is to concern not only ordinary visitors, but also cruise ships stopping at popular points.

The Act allows local authorities to apply tax at their own discretion in tourist places. You will be able to adjust the percentage depending on the season.

Tourist fees will support the state

Money from the tax collected is to be allocated to support local infrastructure. It comes, among others for renovation or construction of public toilets and parking lots. Due to the excessive number of visitors, the residents began to complain about the piston, queues and the lack of enough space.

Oslo officials clearly say that Norway is affected by overtourism. This phenomenon leads to internal conflicts. The most problematic are noise and crush on the streets or near known attractions.

According to official data, Norway recorded a record number of 38.4 million accommodation bought last year, of which over 12 million by foreigners. A similar situation has long concerned other countries or islands, including Italy and Spain.
