Poles began to install them en masse. Will they soon have to part with mObywatel?

mObywatel

Is the end of the mObywatel application approaching? This may be indicated by the justification for the draft amendment to trust services and electronic identification. The expert spoke up.

The mObywatel application is very eagerly promoted in the media (both on the Internet and on TV) by the government. It is praised and recommended for installation – thanks to it, a person who decides to create an account will not have to, among other things, carry more documents with you, such as an ID card or driving license. In addition, via mObywatela you can check how many penalty points are on your driver’s account, as well as, for example, submit an application for various documents.

Just go to the application’s website and you will be greeted by a slogan encouraging you to install it. “You have to have it,” emphasize the representatives of the press team and point out that downloading mObywatel 2.0 to your smartphone (e.g. from the Google Play store or App Store) is completely free. “After installation, you always have your documents at hand, you can deal with official matters quickly and conveniently, you save time and money” – the advantages of having the software were mentioned.

However, the question remains whether the app will be discontinued soon. The Ministry of Digitization pointed out that “mObywatel 2.0 solutions established on the basis of national regulations are fundamentally different from the requirements for the European digital identity portfolio,” journalists from the Polish Press Agency report.

Is the end of the mObywatel 2.0 application approaching?

A cybersecurity expert spoke about the imminent end of the application.

– Based on the justification for the draft amendment, which is to introduce a European digital identity wallet, one may suspect that we will have to say goodbye to mObywatel – said Paweł Makowiec in an interview with PAP. He noted, however, that the documents published by Krzysztof Gawkowski’s ministry do not indicate that the application will cease to exist soon. “However, there are terms indicating this,” writes the PAP editorial team.

The Ministry has published a draft amendment aimed at adapting national regulations to the EU eIDAS 2.0. According to MC, “it is not possible to adapt the existing mObywatel application to the requirements specified for the European digital identity wallet,” so “a completely new solution should be developed.”
