The joy of discounts did not last very long. PanParagon data shows that the prices of basic products in stores have increased again. Pepper turns out to be the leader.

PanParagon conducted an analysis for Business Insider Polska of 14 basic products that are on the shopping lists of most Poles.

The analysis shows that we pay on average PLN 96 and PLN 93 for them, which means that within a week the prices of basic products went up by PLN 1 and PLN 4 (1.1%). These data may be surprising, considering the fact that a week ago the first reduction in a long time was recorded – we paid PLN 95 and 90 groszy for purchases, 52 groszy less than a week earlier. It hasn’t been as expensive as it is now since the beginning of August this year.

Prices in stores are up significantly. What has become the most expensive?

According to the data quoted by the portal, the price of peppers, which costs on average PLN 9.73 per kilogram, has increased the most, by as much as 14%. more than a week ago. By almost 5 percent Potato prices increased by almost 3%. raspberry tomatoes have become more expensive.

However, there are many products whose prices have dropped. By almost 10 percent apples became cheaper and carrots became cheaper by 7%. Butter, sugar and wheat flour are also cheaper.

Let us recall that data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) presented in mid-October show that consumer inflation in September amounted to 2.9%. An identical reading was recorded a month earlier.

Data from the Central Statistical Office show that in the previous month – compared to September 2024 – the prices increased the most in the categories of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products as well as education (an increase of 6.8%). Food prices increased by less than 4%. According to the National Bank of Poland (NBP), core inflation (i.e. inflation excluding food and energy prices) amounted to 3.2% in September. At the end of this week, the Central Statistical Office will release estimated data on consumer inflation in October.
