Poles are just starting to fight for the title! This is a long-awaited match

The 2026 season in the context of the Polish national volleyball team is entering a decisive phase. The most important event this year is the European Championships. Coach Nikola Grbic’s team will defend the championship title they won in 2023.

The first match is against Portugal. How does Aleksander Śliwka evaluate this challenge?

– A tournament like this always requires great concentration in the first matches. It doesn’t matter who is on the other side of the net. The Portuguese team has some interesting players who played in European cups this year. Whether in the colors of Portuguese clubs or other clubs from the Old Continent. This is a team we know less because we have had less contact with them in recent years, but that does not mean that we can approach the match any differently than the best team in the world. Nothing changes in our approach. We want to focus on doing everything to collect the victory, said the team captain before the start of the European Championship 2026.

European Championship 2026: Poland – Portugal. Where and when to watch the volleyball match?

It is worth recalling that Poland won the title of the best team in the Nations League (2026), defending the title won last year. Additionally, the Poles performed very well during the friendly Hubert Wagner Memorial, reaching the final triumph. It is clear that the Polish team is in good shape, and the Olympic runners-up want to confirm it during the European Championship 2026.

Here is the schedule of games for the Polish national team, which we also wrote about in a separate text in WPROST.

• Thursday (i.e. September 10), 3:00 p.m., Poland – Portugal

• Saturday (12/09), 3:00 p.m., Poland – Israel

• Sunday (13/09), 6:00 p.m., Poland – Macedonia

• Tuesday (15/09), 6:00 p.m., Poland – Ukraine

• Wednesday (16/09), 6:00 p.m., Bulgaria – Poland

The best four teams from each group at the tournament will advance to the 1/8 finals. Poles play their matches in Bulgaria, more specifically in Sofia. A special facility, because in 2012 it was there that Poland won the World League finals.
