It would seem that the holiday period is a time when employees relatively rarely take sick leave. Meanwhile, as CONPERIO data show, a consulting company dealing with sickness absence, in July and August, i.e. at the peak of the holiday season, the number L4 increased by 1 percentage point. For many companies, even this would seem a small growth may be felt. For example, production can lead to real downtime, overloading of teams and organizational tensions.

Why do Poles take L4 immediately after vacation?

Why do Poles go to dismissal immediately after the holidays? Experts emphasize that this is not just about health problems. – We notice that the number of cases in which employees do not return to work after the holidays are growing, but immediately go to sick leave. This is not only a health, but also social matter. L4 can be an escape from overload, lack of flexibility or simply a way to extend the free. For many people, holidays are not enough to realistically regenerate – they return to work with the feeling that rest has changed anything. Already during the holidays there is a thought of having to reach for L4 – emphasizes Mikołaj Zając, president of Conperio, labor market expert.

The expert points out that returning to professional routine after vacation is a critical moment for many employees. They return to accumulated tasks, pressure and awareness that it is no longer possible to extend the free. L4 in this case becomes a buffer – a way to gain a few days of breath, often sometimes needed to close family matters or even prepare children for school. The hare indicates that in some cases a cool calculation is behind the leave after the holiday. This applies especially to manual and production employees who treat holiday holidays as an opportunity for additional earnings in agriculture or collections. – They do not return to full -time work, but benefit from the dismissal to extend the seasonal activity period – explains the expert.

New phenomenon among employees

Increasingly, sickness absence after vacation is also due to the psychological distance to work. You can see the echoes of the phenomenon of “quiet quitting” – employees do not quit, but perform only the necessary minimum, without additional commitment. – In combination with professional burnout, which does not disappear after a week on the beach, L4 can become a form of a quiet protest.
