Poland will have a new city. It will surpass Paris in size
There is definitely no shortage of large cities in Poland. Currently, Gdańsk is winning in terms of area, followed by Warsaw. They may soon be surpassed by a completely new metropolis.
Currently, when we think about the largest cities in Poland – both in terms of area and inhabitants – we do not have Silesia in mind. This may change soon. A completely new Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis (GZM) is to be created, which will function as a unified entity. There is no shortage of supporters of such an idea.
A new city in Poland
If the areas of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis were merged into a whole and gained the status of a city, Poland would have a completely new existence. Interestingly, it would be so large that it would easily surpass Warsaw and even important European destinations such as Paris or London.
For now, there are only plans, but that may not be the end. The mayor of Katowice, Marcin Krupa, expressed his opinion clearly. “One city, as the final stage of integration of all communes of the Metropolis, is my dream.” It follows that local politicians may be willing to introduce changes and fight the implementation of the idea. Media reports indicate that the project has already reached key decision-makers in the region.
The advantage of the new solution would be to improve the quality of life of residents. The Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis would gain on a European scale and become more attractive for tourists.
Will the new city be an attraction?
If the changes came into force, tourists from Poland and Europe could certainly have a new destination for their tourist trips. Interestingly, it would have to last a really long time, because visiting everything in one day would certainly be impossible. In the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis there are as many as 41 cities and communes covering an area of 2.5 thousand square meters. square kilometers. 2.1 million people live there.
It is known that if we wanted to visit the new Metropolis as one city, we would have to visit, among others: Bytom, Chorzów, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Gliwice, Jaworzno, Katowice, Mysłowice, Piekary Śląskie, Ruda Śląska, Siemianowice Śląskie, Sosnowiec, Świętochłowice, Tychy, Zabrze, as well as Będzin, Czeladź and Knurów. And that’s not all.
It should be noted that each of the mentioned points has its own monuments, interesting architecture, parks and even lakes. Silesia also boasts of its cuisine and local delicacies. Tourists visiting the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis could enjoy it for a very long time, and they would not have to complain about boredom.
