Poland returns to the game. Production K2 in domestic plants

Polish industry returns to the production of tanks. The K2 assembly agreement can be signed in June. Installation will start in Bumar in Gliwice.
Tank production returns to Poland. After years of break, the national arms industry begins to regain its possibilities in the construction of heavy equipment. The center of attention has a contract regarding another party of the South Korean K2 tanks, which may be signed before the end of June 2025. Some machines are to be mounted at the Bumar-Łabędy plant in Gliwice.
Installation of tanks
A contract of 2022 is currently being carried out, providing for the delivery of 180 ready -made K2 tanks from Korea. However, the second tranche, also covering 180 machines, opens the possibility of starting assembly in Poland. Due to the collapse of the PGZ and Hyundai Rot consortium, which was to be carried out in Poznań, the new assembly place was indicated by Gliwice plants. There, from Korean components, about 80 tank copies are to be created.
Over time, the range of local production is to be expanded. As in the case of Habic Krab, production under the license can lead to significant polonization – today almost all elements of crab are created in the country. However, not only the folding of vehicles is crucial, but the possibility of servicing and modernizing them in Poland.
Technology transfer
History shows that Polish industry had competence in this area. In the past, T-72 and PT-91 tanks were produced, and their own projects were developed, such as Goryl. However, these abilities have weakened after the Leopard tanks were introduced into the army. Current activities are an attempt to rebuild them.
Although the order for 1000 K2 tanks seems not to be real, technology transfer is important. Serving key components, such as drive systems, is the basis of future independence. Modern equipment, such as Abrams tanks or Borsuk Infantry Combat, also contribute to the gradual strengthening of domestic possibilities.
