Poland has its rainforests. Here’s where you can see them

When we think about rainforests, we think of the most beautiful ones in the world in the Amazon, Guatemala or Borneo. It turns out that Poland also has something to be proud of.

The rainforests in question are exceptionally green places dominated by lush plant formations and a variety of life forms. They are described as tropical jungles, and rainfall and high temperatures there remain high all year round. All this creates a unique and exceptional atmosphere. It turns out that we can feel it not only in Central America or Asia. In our country, tourists and nature lovers are fascinated by riparian forests, or “Polish rainforests”.

Rainforests in Poland? Here are the riparian areas

Officially, typical rainforests do not exist in Poland, but we have places considered their equivalents, i.e. riparian forests. They have a very similar climate to that of the tropics. Inside there are lush fruit trees, bushes and mushrooms. Various species of animals and birds hide among them. Toads, pond turtles, owls and beavers play an important role. The development of such places is determined by the level of water movement in rivers and streams. The more moist the soil, the better.

A tropical climate usually prevails where there are ash trees, alders and elms, as well as poplars and willows. These types of vegetation appear most often in riparian forests. They can be found mainly in the lowlands, highlands and valleys adjacent to larger rivers.

Here we will find “Polish rainforests”

Riparian forests, i.e. “Polish rainforests”, can be found in the Greater Poland Lake District, the Toruń Valley, the Vistula Valley and the Lower Oder. There is also no shortage of them in Żuławy Wiślane (Pomeranian Voivodeship, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship).

We will find the Odra riverbeds in the province. Lower Silesia, and in the Barycz Valley in the province of Lower Silesia and Greater Poland. Interestingly, an important place in Silesia also plays an important role – the Lasy nad Górną Liswartą Landscape Park. Moreover, tourists are often impressed by the riparian forest in Przegorzały near Krakow.

An idea for a fairy-tale trip

A trip to the riparian forest provides landscapes known from fairy tales and fairy tales. The scenery will allow you to take a beautiful photo session, but also for blissful relaxation.

There can be many attractive ideas for trips in the footsteps of “Polish rainforests”. It is worth planning a visit to such a place not only in spring or summer, but also in autumn – especially if the weather is good. One of the proposals is the above-mentioned Przegorzały, i.e. the Wolski forest. Visitors will find a tropical climate and a real bird paradise there – it is said that there are up to 60 species there. Sometimes, free weekend walks are organized on site, attended by botanists, zoologists and other nature experts.

It is also worth visiting Grądy in the Odra Valley, which stretches from Wrocław to the borders of the voivodeship and includes the most valuable natural fragments in the Odra and Oława valleys. Another tourist hit is the aforementioned Barycz Valley, which offers as many as 1,800 km of trails – cycling, hiking, kayaking and horse riding. In the area you will find fish ponds, wet meadows and trees. Do you know where you will go?
