Poland has a medal in cycling European Championships! Daria Pikulik has done it again

Daria Pikulik

Daria Pikulik is the bronze medalist of the European Road Cycling Championships! The Dutch Lorena Wiebes won the mass start race ahead of the Italian Elisa Balsamo.

It is worth recalling that Daria Pikulik recently came back from the Olympic Games as vice-champion. However, the Polish woman won silver in the French capital in track cycling. However, as the European Road Cycling Championships show, in this edition the Polish cyclist also feels like a fish in water.

The competitors had to cover 162 km on Saturday, September 14, on a route in Belgium. It must be admitted that the competition was very tactical, and Pikulik could count on the support of her colleagues from the Polish national team. The effect of this was the appearance of a group of Polish women at the head of the pack a few kilometers before the finish line, and all this so that Pikulik could ultimately count on the best possible place to attack in the final meters.

It worked out so well that the Pole actually came in a sensational third place. Pikulik was definitely not among the strongest favorites, here the main focus was on sharing the podium between the Dutch and Italians. As the final results showed, that was indeed the case, but the Pole interfered in all of this.

Daria Pikulik worthily replaced Katarzyna Niewiadoma at the cycling European Championships

It is worth noting that eight of our representatives took part in the mass start race: Karolina Kumięga, Marta Jaskulska, Marta Lach, Daria Pikulik, Wiktoria Pikulik, Kaja Rysz, Agnieszka Skalniak and Aurela Nerlo.

Katarzyna Niewiadoma did not appear at the European Championships in Belgium. The Polish woman won the Tour de France a few days ago. Niewiadoma is preparing to compete in the upcoming World Road Cycling Championships. The cyclists have many opportunities to race in the mountains, so there is no denying that this could be another great time for Polish cycling. Niewiadoma should be among the favorites to succeed at the 2024 World Championships.

And Pikulik? May he take increasingly confident steps in the road edition, where – as the result from the European Championships in Belgium shows – he has great potential to achieve further successes.
