Poland at the head of Europe. We defeated the Germans and the French

Poland is one of the EU countries producing the least waste. The level of recycling is also growing, but the Union accuses Poland of a lack of implementation of ecological goals.
Poland is one of the European Union countries generating the smallest amount of municipal waste – according to Eurostat data. In the ranking we defeated, among others Germany, France and the Netherlands. The European Union also increases the level of recycling, which limits the amount of garbage to the landfills.
Less waste per capita
According to Eurostat, in 2023 the average EU resident produced 511 kg of municipal wastewhich means a 4 kg decrease compared to the previous year and 23 kg compared to 2021. In two years, the amount of garbage per person decreased on 4.3 percent Despite this, the long -term trend shows an increase – compared to 2013, the average amount of waste per person increased by 32 kg.
Poland at the forefront of countries with the least amount of garbage
The analysis of individual countries shows significant differences in the amount of waste per capita. The inhabitants of Austria produce the most garbage (803 kg/person), Denmark (802 kg/person) and Luxembourg (712 kg/person). Romania is at the other pole (303 kg/person), Poland (367 kg/person) and Estonia (373 kg/person).
Progress in recycling
On average, in the European Union, it was recycled for recycling 48 percent municipal wastewhich means that 246 kg of waste per person has been processed again. This is a clear improvement compared to 2013, when the recycling indicator was 37.2 percent
Simultaneously 129 kg of waste per person was burned downa 115 kg went to dumps. The amount of waste stored decreased compared to 2013, when the landfills landed on average 142 kg per capita.
Problems with achieving EU goals
Despite the positive trends in waste management, the European Commission in July 2024 initiated proceedings against several countries, including Poland, for failure to meet the purposes of recycling and preparation of waste for reuse. The purpose set for 2020 regarding the level of waste processing has not been achieved, which may result in further actions on the part of the Union.
