PLN 215 per month. New rules for granting benefits
From the beginning of November, new rules for granting care allowance to sick people have been in force, including: for diabetes.
From November 1, 2024, diabetes patients and people with other chronic diseases can apply for a care allowance in the amount of PLN 215.84 per month. This benefit is available to people who, due to their health condition, require constant care and meet certain criteria. We explain who is entitled to the benefit and what formalities must be completed to receive it.
Care allowance – who is entitled to it?
Care allowance is financial assistance intended for people who require constant care due to disability or old age. This benefit is due:
-
people with a certificate of significant disability (applies to people over 16 years of age),
-
people with a moderate degree of disability, if the disability occurred before the age of 21,
-
children with a disability certificate (regardless of the degree),
-
seniors over 75 years of age.
People with type 1 diabetes may qualify for the benefit if their health condition meets additional requirements – including a moderate degree of disability, which may be granted in the event of complications, frequent episodes of acidosis or hypoglycemia. Children with diabetes do not need to have a certificate of disability, a certificate of disability is enough.
How to apply for benefits?
To receive care allowance, you must submit an appropriate application to the city or commune office in person or via the Emp@tia online platform. In the event of any gaps or errors in the application, the institution will set a deadline for completing them. Failure to respond within the prescribed time may result in the application being left without consideration.
The basis for obtaining benefits is having a disability certificate. To obtain them, you must contact the Disability Assessment Team appropriate for your place of residence, providing appropriate medical documentation.
When is the benefit not due?
The benefit is not available to people who:
-
they already receive care allowance,
-
they stay in 24-hour care institutions,
-
they use a foreign benefit to cover the costs of care.
Care allowance can be valuable support for chronically ill people, such as diabetics, whose health condition requires constant care. Thanks to this benefit, you can partially cover the costs of daily assistance and care.
