A plane flying from Moscow to Istanbul has landed at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport. The plane took off with a delay on Sunday, before 7 p.m. Polish time.
The plane from Moscow landed at Chopin Airport. Passengers in the non-Schengen zone
Anna Dermont, a spokeswoman for the airport, confirmed to Interia that the plane landed at the capital’s airport and that the incident was unplanned. She indicated that it occurred due to problems with the plane’s navigation equipment. “The landing was safe and the passengers were transported to the non-Schengen area,” a representative of the capital’s airport said.
– The pilot reported problems with navigation. He decided that he could not continue the journey with passengers – Piotr Rudzki from the Warsaw airport press team told RMF FM. – It was not an emergency landing. No assistance from airport services was necessary – he added, emphasizing that the plane landed safely.
A special area was set aside for the people on board the plane, which was monitored by Border Guard and Airport Security officers. In a designated area, passengers waited for a replacement aircraft to be provided. At around 4 a.m. on Monday, the plane took off towards Istanbul.
It is worth recalling that after the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine, the European Union closed its airspace to Russian carriers. As Interia recalled, passengers from Russia can, however, travel over EU territory on board aircraft not registered in that country, which belong to other companies. The ban does not apply to humanitarian, search and rescue or emergency landing flights.
