PKP introduces a revolution. Is this the end of traditional timetables?
PKP has started a new convenience test at railway stops. From the new year, passengers will use it all over Poland.
At some railway stations you can already see QR codes. Polish state railways test a solution that is to facilitate travelers reading the timetable in force at a given stop. For now, the convenience is available in cities and towns in Podhale, Podlasie, Lublin region and Lower Silesia. “It is to cover stops and stations throughout Poland from the new annual timetable,” writes the railway market.
QR codes at stops
Will timetables placed in the display case go to the past? In recent days, passengers had the opportunity to see a completely new functionality test, which is designed to facilitate passengers to read the train departure time. We are talking about QR codes, which after scanning the desired information about a given stop directly on the phone.
“We will optimize this solution, taking into account in particular the voice of travelers. With the implementation of a new annual timetable, we plan to provide QR codes at all active stops and stations in Poland,” said Krzysztof Drozdowski, board member, Director of Digital Transformation in Polish Railway Lines are cited by the railway market.
Timetables will not disappear
For now, the first codes are available at stations in Podhale, Podlasie, Lublin and Lower Silesia – in a total of 530 locations. The introduction of QR codes does not mean that traditional, printed timetables will disappear forever. Travelers who do not have smartphones do not have to worry – according to the company’s plans, long tables placed in the showcases will not be removed from stops at least for now.
QR codes are not the only convenience introduced recently for Polish passengers. PKP Intercity, a carrier belonging to the PKP group, has recently offers its clients unique promotional offers introduced on the occasion of “cheap Mondays”.
