Pociąg PKP

The entry of competition onto the tracks forced PKP Intercity to significantly reduce ticket prices – writes today’s “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”. You can ride the Pendolino train for just PLN 29.

The newspaper points out that after the December false start of the Czech company Regiojet (three quarters of the announced connections failed to launch), the carrier started its operations at the beginning of this year. For several weeks, four pairs of trains have been running daily from Warsaw to Krakow and three pairs from Warsaw to Tricity. At the beginning of February, two pairs of connections from the capital to Poznań were launched, and in March there will be six of them. Also in March, the second Czech carrier, LeoExpress, is to expand its operations.

PKP Intercity has lowered prices. Even PLN 29

The appearance of competition forced PKP Intercity to reduce ticket prices. This applies especially to the Warsaw-Poznań route, which is related to the launch of competitive connections by the Czechs. A few days before departure, you can buy tickets for an express train (EIC or EIP) for PLN 29, while recently you had to pay almost PLN 150.

Such attractive prices also apply to tickets for the Pendolino train from Warsaw to Krakow and from the capital to Tricity. After the pool of the cheapest tickets is exhausted, more are available, with rates of approximately PLN 50 and 80. Previously, there were very few cheaper Pendolino tickets on these routes. The basic price of PLN 169 dominated.

Prices of PKP Intercity connections have dropped, which is mainly visible on the routes operated by Regiojet. However, the actions of competitors cause some nervousness among our national railway carrier. He used to look more favorably at private companies. Now he felt threatened – comments Karol Trammer, quoted by the newspaper, from the bimonthly magazine “Zbieg rail”.

The PKP Intercity press office indicates in a comment for the daily that nine promotional thresholds have recently been introduced. The number of cheaper tickets depends on various factors, including: travel times. However, the company admits that competition also influences promotions. PKP Intercity emphasizes that it also treats road transport as competition, so you can also count on attractive promotions on routes running along highways or expressways.
