PKP Intercity announces an important change. This group of passengers will benefit

In the new year, the carrier will expand its fleet of wagons. Passengers will have more special seats at their disposal.

2025 on the railways is not only about changing the railway timetable or the upcoming opening of the expanded Warszawa Zachodnia station. We can also expect new features inside the trains themselves. The carrier intends to expand access to places intended for people with disabilities. The number of special carriages adapted to people with mobility difficulties will increase by one hundred.

More places for disabled people on trains

The trains are also friendly to people with limited mobility. Stairs and tight corridors are increasingly replaced by modern platforms, wide passages and spacious toilets that can accommodate a wheelchair. It is no wonder that interest in railways is growing, also among people who in the past would have had a big problem boarding a train. “In 2024, 855,000 people traveled on board PKP Intercity trains. passengers with disabilities. A year earlier, there were 776,000 of them,” reports the carrier’s press office. In total, 82 percent of Intercity trains offer seats for people with disabilities. So there is still room for improvement. The carrier will increase availability in the coming years.

The conductors know what to do

The carrier’s employees have been trained and know what to do when a person in need of help appears on the platform. “Employees are trained both in the principles of providing assistance and in matters relating to communication with travelers,” we read. However, it is worth remembering that when a disabled person travels, the guarantee of receiving appropriate support is to submit a request for assistance. At least 24 hours before the journey, the passenger should report his journey in the Auxiliary registration form tab. There he can choose the extent to which he should be provided with help. The assistants will take care of the passenger while boarding the train and storing luggage, but also at the station.
