PKP has chosen Poles’ favorite long weekend. That’s when they traveled most often
Two long November weekends are behind us. One of them was particularly popular among the inhabitants of Polish cities.
The days marked in red in the calendar are an opportunity for additional rest, meetings with family and long-awaited trips. This year, two long November weekends related to the celebration of All Saints’ Day and then Independence Day contributed to record results for PKP Intercity. We know which “longer days off” were more popular this fall.
PKP breaks record
The Polish carrier has already exceeded the number of passengers served in 2023. There are already over 68 million passengers, and the hottest holiday season of the year is ahead of us. It is in December that Poles visit their loved ones in various parts of the country or use the seasonal connections of the new timetable. The results could probably be even higher because the demand for travel on popular dates is higher than the capacity of the rolling stock. Over the last long weekend alone, over 300 additional wagons were attached to trains on the most popular routes. On some connections, PKP even offered double the number of seats compared to the standard offer.
Poles prefer this long weekend
Although there was no shortage of rail travelers in the period from November 8 to 11 (the data collected shows up to 913,000 people), more passengers were recorded on the weekend before the national holiday. “From October 30 to November 3, 985,000 people used PKP Intercity services. passengers. On the last day of the long weekend, on Sunday, November 3, the largest number of passengers traveled on the carrier’s trains during this period, over 255,000. travelers,” we read in the information provided by the press office. On both dates, Poles focused primarily on traveling between large cities. The beginning of the school and academic year certainly has a significant impact on this trend – many students return to their family homes during these periods.
