PKO BP warns. These errors can cost a loss of money
PKO BP warns against false online stores. He advises how to pay safely and protect data during holiday shopping.
PKO Bank Polski appeals to its clients so that during the holiday season, full of spontaneous online purchases, they do not forget about the basic safety rules. The bank reminds that the use of the Internet is associated with risk – in a hurry it is easy to find a false page, which only impersonates the store and is used to extort data from payment cards.
Thorough check
Before making the transaction, it is worth checking the store carefully – its internet address, opinions of other users, available forms of payment and the possibility of returning the goods. PKO BP points out that the more reliable payment methods the store offers, the greater the certainty that we are not dealing with fraud.
The bank also draws attention to other rules that should become a daily habit. Avoid logging in to banking or making payments using public, unsecured Wi-Fi networks and publicly available devices, e.g. computers in hotels or internet cafes. You can’t be sure whether such equipment has been infected or is not monitored.
Limits on cards
It is also worth setting limits on payment cards – even if there is unauthorized use, the losses will be limited. PKO BP also emphasizes that the PIN should be used only for terminals and ATMs. If someone asks for it in a different situation, e.g. by phone, it should be treated as an attempt to fraud.
An additional security, available to users of the IKO application, is the digital payment card with variable CVC/CVV code. This code is only valid for a certain time, which significantly hinders its use for unauthorized persons – even if it hits the wrong hands, it will quickly become useless.
Therefore, PKO Bank Polski calls for caution and the use of proven protection methods to avoid unpleasant consequences related to data and money loss.
