PKN instead of CPN? This is how Karol Nawrocki wants to help drivers

Prezydent RP Karol Nawrocki

This week, the president will submit the draft “Fuel Costs Normally” bill. Its aim is to reduce fuel prices and limit the profits of companies.

During Thursday’s press conference, the head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland, Paweł Głosernaker, presented the assumptions of the presidential initiative “Fuel Costs Normally”. Its aim is to reduce prices at gas stations and to really reduce the profits of companies.

PKN instead of CPN? The president’s proposal for drivers

The new initiative of President Karol Nawrocki is a response to another government bill on the introduction of a tax on extraordinary profits of fuel companies. The president submitted the previous bill on this matter to the Constitutional Tribunal. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday that this time he is counting on Karol Nawrocki’s signature and if this happens, the government will reactivate the Lower Fuel Prices (CPN) package.

– Today, we are here with you to present a real proposal from the Chancellery of President Karol Nawrocki, ideally reducing fuel prices. This solution also reduces fuel prices at stations. One that will prevent unfair profits for oil companies. One that will reduce the inflationary pressure that fuels create on other products today – said the presidential minister during the conference.

The “Fuel Costs Normal” initiative assumes:

  • Full exemption of retail fuel sales from retail sales tax until March 31, 2027,

  • Renewal of the possibility of flexible reduction of excise tax rates by the Minister of Finance,

  • Elimination of the source of the problem through the statutory margin limit: refining, import and wholesale.

Shefernaker assured that the project will be submitted to the Sejm by the president in the form of a complete bill by the end of the week. He also expressed hope that the project would be considered as soon as possible and would not be “frozen again by Marshal Czarzasty, like other good projects of President Karol Nawrocki.”

Chefnaker critical of the government’s idea

Referring to the government’s proposal, the head of the president’s office emphasized that it is identical to the one sent by the president to the Constitutional Tribunal. – Firstly, the law that the government has proposed again is identical to the one that was referred by the president to the Constitutional Tribunal. There are major constitutional doubts. (The government proposes) firstly, an unconstitutional act, and secondly, an act that introduces another tax. Instead of real consumer protection, the government is proposing another fiscal burden – said Shefernaker.
