PiS politicians want coal. “Green ideology destroys Europe’s competitiveness”

Konwencja PiS w Katowicach

During the Katowice convention, PiS politicians voted in favor of coal. They expressed opposition to the “green ideology”.

During the Law and Justice program convention in Katowice, one of the dominant topics was the future of Polish coal and the direction of energy transformation. Politicians from Jarosław Kaczyński’s party have clearly indicated that mining will continue to play a key role in their vision of the country’s development.

As it was emphasized, Poland should not “mindlessly submit to the green ideology” or “liquidate the sector that has built its industrial strength for decades.” The participants of the convention expressed strong opposition to the current climate policy of the European Union and fear for the future of Silesian jobs.

Coal as a pillar of Silesian industry?

— I am a great fan of Polish coal, said MEP Janusz Kowalski. He emphasized that mining should not be liquidated, but modernized towards a “modern sector of the Polish economy.”

MP Marek Wesoły, in turn, spoke about the need for a “renaissance” of the Silesian industry and greater support for traditional industries. In his opinion, this can be achieved, among others, by: by taking care of large plants, defending against the liquidation of coal mines and power plants, introducing modern technologies and giving up the “green ideology” promoted by the EU.

– We must defend our mines and power plants, introduce modern technologies, but without succumbing to the green ideology that destroys Europe’s competitiveness, he stressed.

Pis’s criticism of the energy transformation

During the panels devoted to Silesia and energy, there were many criticisms of the costs of the climate transformation. MEP Janusz Kowalski emphasized that Poland should refrain from radically abandoning fossil fuels.

– Today we need to return to common sense, pull the brake and stop senselessly spending billions of zlotys on energy transformation, which only leads to an increase in energy prices – said the politician.

“Yes” to the development of Silesia, but definitely “no” to the Silesian language

There were also voices in the discussions that the future of Silesia should combine industrial tradition with innovation. MP Jarosław Wieczorek pointed out that the region’s potential can be used not only in mining, but also in modern technologies, such as medicine or the space sector. However, in the opinion of PiS politicians, a reform of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis is needed.

At the same time, the discussion participants criticized attempts to unify “Ślonski Godki” and recognize it as a regional language. In their opinion, “Silesian” could lose its diversity, and the topic is being used politically.
