Pia Skrzyszowska advanced to the next round of the 100-meter hurdles eliminations. The Pole crossed the finish line third, which gave her direct promotion to the semifinals.
Pia Skrzyszowska is one of the athletes that Poles are paying the most attention to during the Olympic Games in Paris. The Pole, who won the bronze medal at the European Championships before the competition in France, now wants to fight for the best result at the most important event of the year. She has already taken the first step, advancing to the next phase of the eliminations in the 100-meter hurdles.
Pia Skrzyszowska advanced to the semi-finals of the 100-meter hurdles
The Warsaw-born athlete was the only representative of Poland in the eliminations. Skrzyszowska started in the second heat of the eliminations. The beginning of the competition did not go as she had planned, so she had to make up for lost time in the second half. Ultimately, the hurdler crossed the finish line with a result of 12.82 seconds, which translated into third place. As a result, the Polish athlete does not have to take part in the repechages.
The repechages are scheduled for Thursday, August 8. The semifinals will take place on Friday, and the final on Sunday. For Pia Skrzyszowska, this is her second appearance at the Olympic Games. In Tokyo, she finished the competition in the semifinal stage.
Pia Skrzyszowska’s career
Pia Skrzyszowska, born in 2001, is a multiple medalist at the European Championships. Two years ago in Munich, she won gold in the 100-meter hurdles, as well as silver in the 4×100-meter relay. This season, she also won bronze at the World Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles. The Polish athlete holds a personal best of 12.37 seconds, set in mid-July 2024.
On Wednesday, other athletes will also compete in the qualifying rounds. Mateusz Borkowski will look for his chances in the 800-meter race. In turn, Maria Andrejczyk, who won a silver medal in Tokyo three years ago, will fight for a place in the women’s javelin throw final.
