Pensions have been underestimated over the years. This may change now

The government will decide to calculate pensions for up to 100,000 seniors. It is about low benefits from 2009–2019. Today a decision will be made.

Hundreds of thousands of pensioners are eagerly waiting for the government’s decision regarding the conversion of their benefits. The case applies to people who retired in June in 2009–2019 and received lower payments due to less favorable rules for valorisation of contributions.

June pensions

For a decade of June, pensioners were in an adverse situation. Their pension contributions were covered only by annual valorisation, bypassing quarterly indicators that provided higher conversion rates. As a result, people retiring in this particular month received much lower benefits than those who did it sooner or later.

In 2021, new provisions were introduced that eliminated this problem, but concerned only new pensioners. Those who have already switched to the benefit were omitted. Now the government wants to fix this mistake.

Re -calculation of the pension

According to the project prepared by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy, injured persons will be able to apply for recalculation of their pension. The calculated amount is also to be valorized – from the moment the benefit is granted to the present.

As reported by “Fakt”, on April 10 the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers is to consider the bill. If it is accepted, he will go to the entire government. The fate of about 100,000 depends on this decision. seniors who have been receiving low payments for years.

Let us remind you that in April seniors also receive the thirteenth pension. It amounts to PLN 1878.91 gross and goes to all those entitled without having to submit applications. In autumn, “fourteen” will also be paid, but only those with lower benefits will receive it in the full amount.
