Pension without the need for work. Poland generously treats some social groups

Pieniądze

Theoretically, you can’t, but you can practically get a pension in Poland without paying contributions to ZUS. And that doesn’t mean a penny. Sometimes the benefit is up to 5,000 zloty.

The principles known to everyone are that retirement benefit in Poland belongs to women aged 60 and men from 65 years of age, but with appropriate work experience: 20 years for women and 25 years for men. After meeting these two conditions, you can at least count on the minimum benefit. In 2025 it was gross from March 1878.91.

People who have not worked a single day get the same money in Poland from ZUS.

Discretionary decision of the head of government

A prime minister can personally save in Poland in Poland. You don’t even have to demonstrate even before, because the decision is discretionary.

In 2021, Mateusz Morawiecki decided to do it 150 times, in 2020 – 39, and in 2019 – 82. It seemed that 2022 was a record – 180 special pensions, but not. In 2023, Mateusz Morawiecki awarded almost 5,000 special pensions. Most of them went to members of the Veterans Corps of the Fight for Independence of the Republic of Poland.

5,000 reached the highest benefit. PLN gross, the lowest – 1 thous. PLN gross. Importantly, an additional benefit from the prime minister does not reduce other benefits received from the Social Insurance Institution.

A special pension also went to 13 distinguished people, including for culture (from 1 thousand to 3,500 PLN). It was also received by three former anti -communist opposition activists and three of their families. The benefit was granted to families (children and spouses) of doctors, nurses and medical workers who, during the pandemic, died of Covid-19, as well as to widows and children of miners who died in disasters in Zofiówka mines and Pniówek Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa.

36 special services, the then head of government awarded “due to the difficult life situation resulting from special random events.” Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in 2024, limited himself to granting a special pension in just 32 cases.

Sport gives the right to high benefit without having to work prior

Sport also gives the right to high pension benefit in Poland. The Olympic pension is a special, prestigious benefit paid for the rest of their lives for outstanding Polish athletes who have won medals at the Olympic Games. In 2025, the Olympic pension is PLN 4,967.95 per month and is not taxable.

It is a form of lifetime financial support for medalists of the Olympic, Paralympic and deaf games. They are paid by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

The type of coin does not matter – both gold, silver and bronze counts. It also doesn’t matter if the medal was won individually or teams. It is enough to be at least 40 years old and finish an active sports career. Polish citizenship, no criminal record and lack of disqualification for doping are further requirements that must be met.

Children protect parents well in Poland against poverty in old age

For people who gave up their professional activity or could not take up employment due to the fact that they raised at least four children, the benefit “Mama 4+” is waiting. It can also be used by fathers raising a minimum of four children, for example after the death of their mother.

Such a pension, however, will not receive someone who is entitled to even a minimal pension or disability pension, as well as a person temporarily arrested or imprisonment (excluding imprisonment in the electronic supervision system) – informs the government website.

It is different when the granted pension or pension is penny. Then the amount of the supplementary benefit is a complement to the amount of the lowest pension.
