Pellet for almost PLN 13,000. PLN per year. What heats a house cheaper?

From PLN 4,700 to PLN 7,189 per year – this is how much it costs to heat a house with a heat pump and prepare hot water, according to the latest calculations of the Polish Smog Alert. The lowest result, PLN 4,700, was obtained for a ground heat pump operating with underfloor heating. It is worth noting that this is the result for a specific building. In this case, these are the costs for a house with an area of ​​150 square meters, moderately insulated and inhabited by four people. PAS assumed the heat demand at the level of 120 kWh per square meter per year. In another house, the bill may be significantly higher or lower.

Pellet or gas? The difference exceeds 4 thousand. PLN per year

In the same model Gas heating costs PLN 8,676 per yearand pellets PLN 12,852. The difference is PLN 4,176. The most expensive in the comparison presented is heating oil – PAS estimated the annual cost at PLN 14,880.

The high result of pellets is due to the increase in its price. According to PAS, the price of this fuel has increased by 52 percent during the year. This is a change in the price of pellets, not information that each boiler owner’s bill will increase by exactly 52%.

What about coal? The price per ton is not enough to compare

PAS also checked coal prices. In the September survey, the average price per ton of walnut coal was PLN 1,500and carbon granulate, called peas – PLN 1,488. However, simply multiplying the price per ton by the amount of fuel purchased will not provide a comparable calculation: the house’s heat demand, boiler efficiency and fuel parameters are important.

Monitoring of solid fuel prices was carried out from September 4 to 8, 2026. 32 fuel depots were checked, two in each voivodeship. In the case of pellets, the cheapest fuel available from sellers with an A1 class certificate was compared.

The lowest bill is not the total cost

The summary shows heating and hot water costsnot the purchase price and installation of the pump, boiler or installation. Therefore, before choosing a heat source, it is worth calculating the expenses for your home, taking into account its insulation and necessary work.
