Spring is fast approaching and the weather is getting more and more pleasant. This encourages many of us to walk and small trips around the capital. It doesn’t matter if you are from Warsaw or live in a completely different part of the country, it is worth looking at this place, at least for a moment.
Pearl among parks in Warsaw
This time we are talking about the Kaskada Park. He is the real treasure in Żoliborz and is considered one of the oldest in the city. Like the Saxon, Krasiński garden, the Park in Wilanów or the Royal Łazienki has a rich history and was loved by the royal circles – once Jan III Sobieski built a palace and two pavilions for his Marysieńka.
From the 17th century, the park was part of the royal residence and quickly became an oasis of peace ideal for rest. Initially, the forested residence was used only by the royal couple, later the place went from hand to hand, until it became the property of the Duchy of Warsaw.
Large changes occurred at the beginning of the 19th century, when General Józef Rautenstrauch became the new owner of the park. He created many atmospheric alleys in it and began to organize various types of events. It was also not without a waterfall powered by a natural source, which the park owes its name today.
In the mentioned areas there were, among others Experimental Station of Sewage Cleaning, a shelter for terminally ill or Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland. During the Second World War, a large part of the park was occupied for makeshift arable fields, and many tragedies occurred there. Ultimately, the park was put into use in the inhabitants in 1950 or 1951. Today it shines again with shine and attracts, among others history lovers.
It is waiting for walkers
Peace and many attractions are waiting for us in the park. Although we will not find the old waterfall anymore, we will admire the fountain and pond. There is no shortage of atmospheric alleys, benches, nature monuments, playgrounds or concert shell. The area is very diverse and quiet. An important point on the spot is the preserved wall of the former House of Municipal Waterworks employees at ul. Collectorka with a commemorative plaque. This is to recall the memory of people murdered in the area during the war.
To get to the Kaskada Park, one should appear between Aleja Armii Krajowej and Słowackiego Street. We will get there with the center in about 15 minutes. It will take 5 minutes longer by bicycle or tram. It is worth remembering that the destination is not far from the bridge of General Stefan Grot-Rowecki and the Vistula in the Żoliborz district.
