Payments of the widow’s pension have started. In these regions the greatest interest of seniors

On July 1, the payments of a new benefit started – Wdowiej pension. These are combined benefits – e.g. 100 percent own benefits and 15 percent benefits of a deceased spouse or vice versa (so -called coincidence). Some authorized persons will receive a benefit from two institutions: from the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and from another pension authority.

Widow a pension. What to do to get?

In order for ZUS to pay the widow, the applicant should meet all the conditions:

• A woman should be at least 60 years old, and a man at least 65 years old,

• Until the day of the death of the spouse, remain with him in marriage,

• acquire the right to a survivor’s pension after a deceased spouse no earlier than on the day of 55 years old by a woman, 60 years old by a man,

• not to be married at present.

According to ZUS forecasts, 86,000 will receive the benefit on the first day. widows and widowers. The maximum amount of benefits collected will amount to no more than three times the minimum pension, i.e. PLN 5,636.73. ZUS estimates that seniors will gain an average of around PLN 350 per month on an annuity.

– The widow is a real support for the household budgets of millions of seniors and seniors, who after losing the spouse, often after several dozen years together, have to face a new, more difficult reality. A reality in which, apart from emotional pain, there are also concerns about financial security. About what to pay for rent, heating, cover other costs that did not decrease by half with the departure of a loved one – emphasizes the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy.

The vast majority, about 90 percent Applications regarding the Widowiej pension are served by ZUS (the others are dealt with, among others, by KRUS, Military Pension Office or Prison Service Pension Office). By the end of June, the authority received almost 972 thousand. applications.

The greatest interest in these regions

The family department transferred “Wprost” from which regions were most often sent documents. – As of June 30, 2025, the ZUS was most received by applications for a widow’s pension from the Śląskie and Mazowieckie voivodships, and the least – from the Podlasie and Lubuskie Voivodships – We are informed by the press office of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy.

The data provided by the ministry shows that 123.7 thousand were submitted in Silesia. applications, while in Mazovia by 10,000 less. In Podlasie, the number of applications is about 25.5 thousand.

Applications can be submitted via PUE ZUS, in writing via post or in the ZUS facility, as well as orally to the report at the ZUS facility.
