Paweł Zagumny sharply talks about the realities of sport in Poland. “Personal reluctance is more important”
Everyday sports life is not a bed of roses. Paweł Zagumny, who has just resigned from the role of president of the Czarni Radom volleyball team, found out about this.
Last season (i.e. 2023/24), the Radom club said goodbye to PlusLiga. Czarni Radom is a place on the national map with a huge tradition. In the 1990s, the Radom team won two bronze medals in the Polish senior championships (1994 and 1995), and in the 1998/99 season they won the Polish Cup. In the recent past, the club’s volleyball players included such players as Tomasz Fornal and Norbert Huber – it was in Radom that they took their first serious steps in the PlusLiga.
Paweł Zagumny left Czarni Radom. Strong words after resignation
Currently, however, the Radom team has to cope with the volleyball elite. In the PLS 1st League, after 12 rounds played, the Czarni are only 11th, having only a point advantage over the 12th position, which is at risk of relegation to the 2nd league. In the last match, the team from Radom suffered a disgraceful defeat against the SMS PZPS Spała team, losing to a team composed of talented youth 0:3.
After this match, Paweł Zagumny resigned as Czarni’s president. A great quarterback in the past, including: runner-up (2006) and world champion (2014) with the Polish national team, who also played for the club from Radom – as a player – published a long entry on social media on Wednesday (December 11). In it, “Guma” referred to many threads regarding the decision to part with the Blacks.
“Unfortunately, relegation from PlusLiga, withdrawal of strategic support by the title sponsor Enea SA, and changes in the policy of supporting clubs in our region have made the recent times difficult, which also affects sports results. At the 1st league level, unlike PlusLiga, the support of the city government is crucial in building the foundation for a solid club. The support of the City of Radom after the relegation is one of the lowest in the first league, and subsequent attempts to combine business with the local government have not brought measurable results. Recent times have shown that not everyone cares about restoring volleyball in Radom, and that sometimes personal reluctance is more important than the primary goal, which in this case is the WKS CZARNI RADOM club,” notes Zagumny.
Black people certainly don’t deserve to be where they are right now. However, times are changing and now a new history clearly needs to be written. Of course, as long as the wind actually blows in the right direction, not necessarily in your face.
“The city of Radom has already experienced the decline of volleyball and does not deserve a repeat of history. A club with a long tradition, one of the most beautiful sports halls in Poland, and LOYAL FANS (!) who, despite several poor seasons, still come and support their team members, deserve more! To sum up, the vision and direction of development of the club, the Supervisory Board and mine are different, hence I consider it impossible to continue functioning in such a configuration. However, I believe that despite everything, Black people will soon receive the support they deserve,” added the former president of Black People.
After Zagumny’s decision, the following also spoke: Robert Prygiel. In the past, a Czarni volleyball player (a student), then a coach and president, also treats the club from Radom in a special way. It is clear that the Radom community has volleyball deeply rooted in its consciousness. However, as we know, in the end, appropriate sponsorship support is important. Without it, it is difficult to function solely on the basis of sentiment.
Let us add that Prygiel is currently the president of the club playing in the PlusLiga, PSG Stal Nysa. We recently quoted his words in the context of the difficult but apparently necessary separation from coach Daniel Pliński.
