Passengers who were on board Australian airlines survived the horror. They witnessed a fire.

On Monday morning, when the machine landed in Hobart (the capital of the state of Tasmania), fire appeared on board. Passengers were the first to feel smoke and informed the crew of the aircraft about it.

Then it came to light that he was coming out of the clipboard.

Tourists terrified. Soon at the airport it swarmed with the services

After opening the clipboard, the staff noticed smoke that came from the inside of one of the luggage. What initiated his appearance? Powerbank (i.e. a portable device that stores electricity – can be used to recharge, e.g. a smartphone or headphones).

The crew initially tried to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher, but this did not have the expected effect. So they decided to use water. The fire was quickly suppressed. It was the fact that the powerbank caused flames that only after extinguishing, after opening the suitcase.

The event was not filmed by any passenger because they forbade this flight attendant. The Pulse Australia station, which publicized the case, determined that all people on board (crew members also) were tested, and one of them – with suspicion of smoke poisoning – was taken to hospital.

Airlines issued a statement

Airlines ensure that their priority is passenger safety. They also thanked the firefighters from AirServices Australia.

Why did the powerbank cause a fire? It is most likely the fault of the lithium-ion battery that can ignite when its internal temperature increases. Another explanation is its damage – e.g. cracking after squeezing (other luggage could squeeze the suitcase in which the device was), which caused her uncontrolled folding. It is worth drawing conclusions from this situation and maybe give up transport of powerbanks in luggage when you plan a flight by plane.
