Passengers on these routes are the worst. Ryanair boss has had enough
Ryanair’s boss said it was time to introduce a limit on alcohol sales at airports. Drunk passengers’ aggression is a growing problem.
Have you ever seen the videos of cheap flights to Ibiza that circulate on social media? Passengers who can’t wait to party and start it on board are a daily occurrence for cabin crew on this route. Shouting, chanting and insulting the staff is a real nuisance.
Ryanair’s Worst Routes. Ibiza in First Place
Michal O’Leary, head of the Irish carrier Ryanair, was recently asked about the worst routes in this respect.
He told Sky News that “Ibiza is definitely the worst destination in this regard.” Last year, a Ryanair flight from Liverpool to Ibiza landed in France because of a drunk passenger. However, he admitted that Irish airline staff and other passengers regularly face physical abuse during the week, and the trend is not limited to flights to the party mecca.
He added that in the past “people who drank too much would fall asleep, and now they are also under the influence of drugs.”
Similar issues have been reported on flights from the Greek islands to various regional airports in the UK, including Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester and Edinburgh.
Time to limit alcohol purchases?
O’Leary explained that Ryanair has implemented measures to prevent this, including searching bags to prevent passengers from bringing alcohol on board. He also recently called on airports to introduce a two-drink limit at airports in a bid to curb violence among passengers on flights.
The boss of the Wetherspoon pub chain told the BBC that there had been “no complaints about pubs from airport authorities or airlines in recent years”. “If our staff see a potentially disruptive passenger they will notify the police and airport security,” he added.
