During the night flight from Brisbane to Hong Kong, there was turbulence, as a result of which as many as ten people required medical assistance. The dangerous incident occurred on board Cathay Pacific flight CX156, which arrived from Australia on Saturday morning. Strong shaking began shortly after staff began serving breakfast. According to witnesses of the event, despite good conditions, the plane suddenly “fell” twice, without prior warning to the pilot.

Strong turbulence disrupted the flight

The long journey from Australia to Hong Kong ended with unexpected turbulence. Passengers of Cathay Pacific flight CX156, who landed in Asia on Saturday, May 23 at 6:45 a.m., experienced a truly difficult time on board. The nightmare began shortly after the breakfast service began. The plane fell twice from a high altitude, causing panic on board. Photos from the cabin show that food trays and food containers were on the floor. According to the airline’s report, four passengers and six cabin crew members suffered minor injuries. Eight of them were taken to hospital upon arrival, most of whom have already been discharged.

Turbulence despite clear skies

Everyone agrees that the turbulence occurred without any prior warnings. No one was prepared for such a scenario – the flight conditions were really good. This phenomenon even has its own name and can be particularly troublesome for passengers. Clear-Air Turbulence (CAT) is a sudden disturbance of air flow invisible to the naked eye that appears in a cloudless sky, usually at cruising altitudes of 7-12 kilometers.

There are statistics showing which air routes are particularly vulnerable to turbulence. However, there are no routes from Australia in the top ten of the ranking.
