Passengers who are planning flights to Germany on March 9-10 may meet with great difficulties.

LOT Polish Airlines have canceled over ten flights from Warsaw to key German cities, such as Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Frankfurt. The cause of the cancellation is the strikes of trade unions at German airports, which paralyzed the air traffic throughout the country.

The reason for canceling flights. Strikes in Germany

The warning strike, which took over German airports, was organized by the Verdi Trade Union. Protesters demand wage increases by 8 %, but at least 350 euros more per month, as well as three additional days off. Employers rejected these demands, considering them impossible to realize.

Which airports in Germany are a strike?

Strikes concern not only Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich, but also airports in:

  • Stuttgarta,

  • Colonii/bonn,

  • Düsseldorfie,

  • Dortmund,

  • Hanover,

  • Bremen,

  • Leipzig-Halle.

The protest action is full, and in Hamburg the airport was completely closed on Sunday, March 9.

What to do if your flight has been canceled?

Passengers whose flights have been canceled should expect contact from Call Center LOT. According to airlines, Krzysztof Moczulski, passengers will receive a proposal to change the reservation to another date or reimbursement of ticket costs. It is worth checking the status of your flight on the carrier’s website or contact the hotline.

What next with protest?

Negotiations between trade unions and employers are to take place on March 14-16 in Potsdam. If the parties do not reach an agreement, further strikes are possible, which may again affect the flight schedule in Europe.
