Parental Salary instead of 800 plus? Poles divided
One third of Poles support the idea of introducing the so-called Parental Salary – according to a survey for “Wprost”. In some cases it would replace 800 plus.
The Development Plus association established by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki presented proposals to improve the demographic situation in Poland. The most important ideas included the introduction of the so-called Parental Salary. It would be payable to one of the parents of a child aged 0 to 3 years and would amount to the minimum wage (currently PLN 4,806 gross). The money would be treated as remuneration for work – subject to taxes and social security and health insurance contributions. In this way, the period of child care would translate into a higher future pension.
– This means that the child’s parent, often a woman, but as in the case of 800 plus it will be the parents’ decision, receives a minimum wage from the state – contributed, subsidized, taxed, and this has several effects. First of all, the child becomes an element of life stability – explained Marcin Horała, one of the association’s leaders, in the “Tłit” program of Wirtualna Polska.
Funds for the Parental Pension would come from the liquidation of some of the existing programs. This includes “Kosiniakowe”, “Grandma”, as well as 800 plus, but only for children up to 3 years of age.
Poles divided on Parental Pay
How do Poles approach the idea of Mateusz Morawiecki’s association? This was verified by SW Research in a survey for “Wprost”.
It turns out that we are divided on this issue. The proposal to introduce a Parental Pay is supported by 33.4 percent. respondents. Slightly more, 39.1 percent. is of the opposite opinion. 18% had not heard about the idea of the association. respondents, and every tenth (9.4%) has no opinion on this matter.
