Paralysis of flights on the Greek island. Aircraft from Poland redirected
Fatal weather conditions at Zakynthos forced the redirect of many flights on Sunday. Poles also had problems who were to fly to the island that day.
Sunday, September 28, was not a good day to start a vacation at Zakynthos or a return from the Greek island. Many flights have been redirected due to strong wind. “Delays and cancellations of flights caused frustration and anxiety among vacationers. Pictures from the airport show crowded terminals and long queues, and people desperately looking for information” – wrote about these problems Travel and World Tour.
Problems at Zakynthos
Problems were not missed by Poles who were to fly to the island of Poznań, the Enter Air line. The charter line informed about problems on an ongoing basis. Because of the gale, rain and poor visibility, the plane landed in the capital of Greece.
“Our cruise from Poznań was redirected to Athens. Ultimately, the conditions did not improve enough to allow the crew to continue the flight.” – the line informed. She added that passengers waiting for Zakintos to go to Poznań “are already placed in hotels.”
Poles were waiting for a replacement hotel
A replacement hotel for the night was organized for passengers, and they were to leave to the target airport only on Monday morning. Some tourists complained for a long time waiting for accommodation, others showed understanding. The carrier reported that due to a large number of flights, the availability of beds in the area quickly decreased.
“Airlines are not required to provide accommodation, you can spend the night at the airport. I had the same situation in the USA and not because of the weather, but aircraft failure (American Airline line), there were the finals of Copa America and there was not a single room in the hotel. Nobody did drama, you have to. Higher force” – wrote one of the people.
In total, the problems concerned 25 connections of different lines. The flights were delayed, canceled or were redirected.
