Over 1000 canceled flights and huge delays. They strike the airports in Munich, Düsseldorf and Cologne.
According to the German daily “Deutsche Welle”, strikes are ongoing in Germany that seriously affect air traffic. Travelers must take into account not only delays, but also flights.
Munich airport
The Verdi trade union announced a two -day warning strike at the Munich airport. The protest will take place on Thursday, February 27, and Friday, February 28. The strike will cover ground service and public services, which can lead to serious interference in the flight distribution.
Airport in Düsseldorf
On Monday, February 24, a one-day strike at the airport in Düsseldorf began, which is one of the largest in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to the strike, more than half of 334 scheduled flights were canceled. Protesters are primarily employees responsible for transporting luggage.
Kolonia/Bonn airport

Several hundred people are striking there, and 106 passenger flights have been canceled, which is two -thirds of all planned connections. The airport in Cologne/Bonn operates in emergency mode and the flight schedule is significantly limited.
Other airports
The Verdi relationship also announces that strikes can spread to other airports in Germany, depending on the further negotiations.
How long do they strike?
Strikes at German airports and other public sectors are the result of unresolved wage negotiations. According to “DW”, they have been taking place in several trade union countries for weeks.
“In North Rhine-Westphalia, the strike in some sectors has been going on for almost three weeks. Strike, among others Preschool educators, bus drivers, employees of the garbage utilization plant. Municipalities in the Lower Rhine region will be affected by strikes on Tuesday, on Wednesday strikes will be continued in Cologne and Essen. Municipal day care centers will suffer, among others, “writes the German service.
Why are employees strike?
The Verdi trade union demands increases in remuneration by 8 percent. or at least 350 euros per month. In addition, trade unionists postulate higher bonuses for employees in particularly stressful professions, such as health care, and three additional days off. Employees point to the growing intensification of work and a continuous deficiency of staff, which significantly charges their duties. Despite these demands, talks with employers, especially with local authorities, have not yet brought an agreement. Employers point to a difficult financial situation of many cities and municipalities, which makes it difficult to meet these demands.
