Panic among Polish employees. The commercial giant will send hundreds of people to the pavement

On January 29, 2025, Carrefour Polska reported to the Poviat Labor Office in Warsaw the intention to carry out group layoffs, which will cover a maximum of 340 employees.
The decision results from the need to adapt the activity to difficult market conditions, cost pressure and changes in the retail sector.
Consultations with trade unions
Carrefour announced that he had started consulting trade unions to discuss detailed issues regarding the reduction of full -time jobs. The network predicts that the talks will end by February 18, 2025. As part of restructuring, the company implements various initiatives, such as the reconstruction of stores, reducing the surface of selected facilities and a review of profitability and implementation of repair plans where necessary.

According to the portal forhandlu.pl, the dismissals will mainly affect shopping employees in Warsaw and Bydgoszcz. This process is part of the general Carrefour strategy, which focuses on cost optimization and improvement of operational efficiency.
Carrefour Polska falling revenues
Carrefour in Poland is struggling with a decrease in financial results. In the third quarter of 2024, the network’s revenues amounted to EUR 578 million, which means a 3 % decrease. year on year. After three quarters of 2024, total revenues generated EUR 1.72 billion, which is a drop of 3.2 percent. in terms of Like-For-Line (LFL).
At the end of 2023, Carrefour Polska employed 9,935 employees, i.e. 951 people less than a year ago. Data for 2024 have not yet been published, but employment reduction is continued.
Carrefour shrinking chain of stores
Carrefour gradually limits the number of facilities in Poland. At the end of September 2024, the network had 801 stores, including:

7 soft discount stores.
For comparison, at the end of 2023, Carrefour had 844 facilities, which means that 43 stores disappeared during the year. The biggest changes relate to the convenience format, which gradually loses its importance.
