Over a million applications for a widow’s pension. Dziemianowicz-Bąk: “We are waiting for the next one”

The first benefits will be paid from July 1, 2025. Widow’s pension-the flagship social project of the current government-this is real support for seniors. For example, with a pension or disability pension, “said the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy (MRPiPS) in the post on Platform X.

This information was confirmed by the head of the ministry during the Monday press briefing at the Bielański Senior Support Center in Warsaw.

– Until Monday, June 23, 2025, 1 064 414 applications for a widow’s pension were received. We are waiting for the next one all the time-said Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk.

Ministry: “Every fifth person over 65 years of age threatened with poverty”

“Even every fifth person over 65 years of age in Poland is threatened with poverty. The widow is a new benefit for people who, after the death of the spouse, face not only emotional loss, but also greater costs of life, previously divided into two,” reads on the MRPiPS website.

– The widow’s pension will allow you to combine your own pension or disability pension with a part of a survivor’s pension after the deceased spouse – or will allow you to combine all surviat after the deceased spouse with part of your own benefit. Widow disability pension – when is the first payment of the benefit?

As the labor department reminds, the recruitment of applications for a widow’s pension began on January 1, 2025, while the payments will start on July 1, 2025. The right to the benefit of ZUS (or other disability pension authority) will grant a month of submission of the application, but not earlier than from July 1, 2025. If the application is submitted by July 31, 2025, the benefit will be paid out to the equalization from July 1 – also when combined with a survivor’s pension.

How much will the widow will be?

Under the new regulations, widow and widowers will be able to combine benefits – e.g. download 100 percent. your pension and 15 percent A survivor’s pension after the deceased spouse, or vice versa. The amount of additional benefit is:

• 15 percent second benefit – from July 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026,

• 25 percent – from January 1, 2027.

The total amount of both benefits may not exceed three times the minimum pension.

Widow the pension – what is this benefit and who will get it?

A widow is a new solution for people who have lost their spouse. To receive a benefit, several conditions must be met:

• reach retirement age,

• remain in marital community until the day of the spouse’s death,

• get the right to a survivor’s pension not earlier than 5 years before reaching the retirement age.

The benefit will be paid by ZUS or other disability pension body in two transfers, but only one institution will be issued to grant the benefit.
