Only one step separates Katarzyna Niewiadoma from success. The Polish woman is close to triumphing in the Tour de France
Katarzyna Niewiadoma remains the best female rider in the Tour De France. After finishing fourth in the penultimate stage of the race, she is just one step away from making history.
Katarzyna Niewiadoma has recently had a strong influence on Poles, who have eagerly begun to follow the competition of female cyclists. The leading Polish representative in this competition has been third in the general classification of the Tour de France Femmes, the female version of the most famous race in the world, for the last two years. This season, the Canyon-SRAM Racing team rider is in great shape, which she shows on the French routes.
Katarzyna Niewiadoma in the lead of the race before the last stage
The Limanowa-born rider is a well-known figure in the cycling world. After the fifth stage, the Pole took the race leader’s jersey and has not given it up yet. Before the penultimate stage, she had a sixteen-second advantage over the second in the classification, Cedrine Kerbaol. The seventh part of the competition brought many climbs that favored the “mountain women”, including Niewiadoma, who is famous for riding very well in such terrain.
Niewiadoma and her team kept a watchful eye on who was trying to escape. She didn’t want to let any of her most dangerous rivals do it. Jusine Ghekiere is not one of those people this year, so the Belgian sprinted for the stage win. Niewiadoma still stayed close to the front of the peloton. Even if one of her rivals took a bonus, finishing the stage in fourth place, combined with the results of her most dangerous opponents, meant that the Pole was in a good position before the last day of competition.
In the general classification, the 29-year-old leads by 27 seconds over second-placed Puck Pietrese and 37 over Kerbaol. Karolina Kumiega is in 81st place, and Agnieszka Skalniak-Sójka is in 92nd.
