One sentence and he said goodbye to the flight. The Pole will pay a fine of PLN 500
This is not how a Pole’s journey to a European country was supposed to go. At the airport, he realized that sometimes one sentence disqualifies us from the trip.
On April 1, we celebrated April Fool’s Day, but the airport services, which ensure the safety of travelers every day, were not in the mood for jokes. The situation that occurred last Wednesday is an example of the fact that risky statements should never be uttered in some places. The Pole’s announcement about the bomb had serious consequences.
A Pole about a bomb at the airport
A problematic situation occurred at Warsaw Chopin Airport. It was announced by representatives of the Nadwiślański Border Guard Unit. A 23-year-old from Poland who wanted to go to the Netherlands reported that he had a bomb with him. As usual in such cases, he did it during ticket and baggage check-in, counting on the understanding of the employees.
Quick intervention of the Special Intervention Group of the Warsaw-Okęcie Border Guard Station was necessary. The traveler was isolated by pyrotechnicians from other people and then checked for possession of dangerous items along with his luggage. The result turned out to be negative.
Serious consequences of a joke
The situation in Warsaw proves once again that there is never room for jokes at airports. Slogans about bombs or leaving luggage unattended carry serious consequences. Although the Pole immediately admitted to the foolishness, he was detained and fined under Art. 210 section 1 point 5a of the Aviation Law. He paid PLN 500, lost his flight to Eindhoven in the Netherlands and a lot of time.
It is worth remembering that in extreme cases, passengers may be charged for similar airport pranks, among others: costs of a forced landing – usually when the word about explosives is mentioned on an airplane during a flight. “We appeal to all travelers to maintain responsibility, manners and mutual respect,” we read in the Border Guard’s statement.
