Oleksandr Usyk defeated a giant. The Ukrainian is the best boxer in history?

Ołeksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury by unanimous decision. The Ukrainian boxer thus retains the WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight throne!

It was a fight that the whole world lived. Tyson Fury, called the “King of the Gypsies”, wanted to prove at all costs that his defeat against the Ukrainian champion was an accident at work. The Briton provoked Oleksandr Usyk in his style. However, according to tradition, he answered again – very accurately – but only in the ring.

Oleksandr Usyk – Tyson Fury. Victory for the Ukrainian, good fight for the British

The fight in Riyadh promised to be exciting, because Fury clearly wanted to take revenge on the only rival he lost to in the professional ring. The problem, however, is, from the Briton’s perspective, that Usyk did not intend to lose his undefeated status in professional rings. And indeed, that’s exactly what he did, although it must be admitted that it was a much more difficult challenge than in the first case.

Furty learned his lesson from the first clash between the two men. The Briton started with a lot of enthusiasm, but he had no intention of leaning out too much. It can be admitted that as long as the Briton had fitness on his side, he was not far behind the Ukrainian champion. Usyk, however, was able to endure adequately and from around the 3-4th round he took over the initiative for good, which was visible, among others, on the score cards of the duel judges.

The fans could rub their hands because both men lasted until the very end, fighting over the full distance of twelve rounds. Ultimately, all three judges scored extremely unanimously in Usyk’s favor. In their eyes, the Ukrainian won exactly 116:112.

Thus, Usyk has a record of 23 wins, including 14 early. After his second defeat, Fury has 34 wins, two losses and one draw, including 24 knockouts. Usyk is undefeated since 2009.

Interestingly, right after the fight it turned out that… another rival of the Ukrainian had revealed himself. Briton Daniel Dubois clearly wants to take away Usyk’s belts. Let us remind you that the Ukrainian is on the WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight throne. Dubois is the IBF world champion. Usyk, in his typical style, accepted the challenge. If he beats the Briton in the ring, he will win the last missing belt – to add to his impressive collection.

Interestingly, both men fought relatively recently, in August 2023 in Wrocław. Then, in a tightly packed Taraczyński Arena, the Ukrainian defeated the Briton, knocking him out in the 9th round. The winner of fight number 2 would be considered the undisputed champion of the royal category. Usyk already did this in the first fight with Fury, but later vacated the IBF belt.
