Nowicki and Fajdek lost form. Olympic champion shows no signs of slowing down
Hammer throwers and female hammer throwers inaugurated the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Chorzów. Among the men, third place went to Wojciech Nowicki, and fifth was Paweł Fajdek.
The Kamila Skolimowska Memorial is also a Diamond League meeting. We don’t usually watch hammer throwing in this series, but in Chorzów it is always present as an additional competition. Five people started among both women and men.
Nowicki and Fajdek without power
In the women’s competition we had no Polish women, and in the men’s competition Wojciech Nowicki and Paweł Fajdek appeared at the start. The former took third place with a result of 76.05 m, and Fajdek was fifth with a result of 74.53. It is clear that both Poles have lost their form a bit in recent weeks, which was also confirmed by the lack of a medal at the Olympic Games in Paris.
The situation in the first two places was interesting. Ethan Katzberg confirmed his great sports class. The Olympic champion triumphed with a result of 80.03 m. He started the competition with an attempt at a distance of 76.76 m. At that time, it gave him the lead, but on the way the hammer caught the net. This only shows how brilliant the representative of Canada is. However, his triumph was not so certain, because in his best throw Mykhailo Kochan achieved 79.85 m.
The Ukrainian lost only eighteen centimetres to the winner of the competition and also confirmed that the Olympic bronze in Paris was not a coincidence.
Bukowiecki and Haratyk without surprise
Unfortunately, there was no great result in the men’s shot put, where the last places were taken by Konrad Bukowiecki and Michał Haratyk. The latter failed all three attempts, and Bukowiecki did not even reach the distance of 20 meters. Their results were not surprising, because for some time now we have seen that the world’s top athletes have far outpaced the Polish representatives. The triumph in the shot put was achieved by Joe Kovacs.
