Wages in May fell by as much as 4.1%. compared to April – this is the largest monthly salary drop in history. There are several reasons for concern.
A smaller salary is a devastating circumstance for the psyche and a playground for strong emotions. One must take into account the sudden loss of a sense of security, stress, anxiety and uncertainty about the future, a sense of injustice, frustration, helplessness, loss of self-confidence and anger at employers and the general economic situation.
As it turns out, at least some of these emotions have a good address.
There are fewer and fewer job offers and fewer and fewer people working
According to money.pl, the average salary fell by as much as 4.1% in May. compared to April. “Even in 2020, when the economy was paralyzed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the decline in wages in May was shallower. On average over the past 20 years, it reached 2.6 percent.” – the portal justified the thesis about the historic decline in salaries.
Wages have fallen because the demand for workers has also fallen. The Central Statistical Office calculated the number of job offers reported to labor offices – it decreased by almost 11% compared to April. At the end of the month it was about 44,000, which is less than ever before in May.
The report on the economic activity of the population shows that the number of people working in the Polish economy is 134,000 fewer than a year ago. It amounts to 17.06 million, which is the lowest since the first quarter of 2021. However, the number of working retirees increased slightly – by 38,000 people. But is there anything to be happy about when the number of working-age people has dropped by as much as 175,000?
Poles have more and more people to support
Unemployment data complement the disturbing picture. 3.4% are unemployed. society and this is the highest level in five years. According to the Central Statistical Office, the number of unemployed people registered in labor offices amounted to 934.3 thousand in April. compared to 949.8 thousand a month earlier.
The employment rate, i.e. the share of working people in society at large, dropped to 56.2%. which is the lowest in four years.
It turns out that working Poles also have more and more people to support. For every 1,000 working people, there are 797 unemployed people, and this does not include children (the data concerns people over 15 years of age). A year ago there were only 781 of them, i.e. 16 people less.
