Not Prague anymore. Poles fell in love with this region off the beaten track

Prague is still the most popular destination among Poles in the Czech Republic, but a significant increase has been noticed elsewhere. A region full of contrasts has become a hit.

The Czech tourism headquarters, CzechTourism Polska, provided the latest data on the arrivals of Poles to our southern neighbors. The number of overnight stays by Polish tourists in the Czech Republic in the first four months of 2026 increased from 522,090 to 564,680. This means an increase of 8.2%.

Not only Prague. We were delighted with the region full of contrasts

The positive trend results from two factors: a significant extension of stays and a growing interest in regions outside the most popular destinations. Prague continues to be the most popular among Poles, recording 188,147 overnight stays. At the same time, the capital of the Czech Republic was one of the few regions that did not record growth during this period. The number of overnight stays there decreased slightly – by about one percent.

Huge increases were recorded in regions outside the main tourist routes. The leader was the Moravian-Silesian region (Ostrava, Zaolzie, Beskydy, Jeseníky), where the number of overnight stays Polish tourists increased by 45.3%. Although July in Ostrava will be marked by festivals, the region has much more to offer during the year – wonderful mountain ranges on both ends and attractions that have grown in its industrial areas (including the revitalized Dolne Vitkowice complex).

High increases were also recorded by the Pardubice Region (+43.8%) and the Olomouc Region (+37.8%).

More accommodation in the Karkonosze Mountains

In terms of the number of new overnight stays, the greatest increase was recorded in the Hradec Kralove Region (+13,939), especially thanks to the Karkonosze Mountains, even ahead of the aforementioned Moravian-Silesian Region (+9,529) and the Olomouc Region (+6,125).

The data confirms the growing interest of Poles in discovering less obvious tourist destinations in the Czech Republic. Poles choose regions offering active recreation, local culture, strong impressions and natural attractions.

– We are glad that Poles are deciding to stay longer in the Czech Republic and are increasingly willing to discover places beyond the most famous attractions. The strength of the Czech Republic lies in the diversity of 14 regions, each of which has its own character and offers something unique – comments Tomáš Zukal, director of CzechTourism Polska.

Who came to the Czech Republic apart from Poles? In the first quarter of 2026, the Czech Republic recorded growth from all significant markets except Israel. The growth leaders were Ireland (+68%), Iceland (+47%) and Japan (+45%).
