Norwegian magic at the World Cup! The show on the stands is a global hit

Erling Haaland

Norway opened the 2026 FIFA World Cup very confidently. Erling Haaland and company defeated Iraq 4:1. The Norwegian fans in the stands also put on a great show.

Although we should actually write that not only in the stands. The Norwegians “rowed” bravely wherever they appeared and there were opportunities to do so.

What exactly are we talking about? Boston Garden, escalators and Norwegian fans in action.

The Norwegians started the 2026 World Cup in great style. Erling Haaland with a double in his debut

The atmosphere of great fun was also transferred by Norwegian fans to the stadium in Boston, where the match against Iraq was played.

On the pitch, Norway also had no reason to complain. Although it must be admitted that the Iraqis strongly opposed the favorite from Europe. What’s more, if it weren’t for a catastrophic mistake – resulting from a misunderstanding between the defender and the goalkeeper – the players would have gone to the locker room for the break with the score 1-1. And this is with an emphasis on Iraq.

The Norwegians were clearly stressed by the stakes of the match, and what’s more, by returning to the World Cup after many years. The last time Norway had a team at the World Cup was in 1998. For Haaland himself, it was his debut at this type of event, just like almost all of his teammates. This is even more valuable, three points to open the World Cup competition.

Interestingly, there was also an important accent related to… the Polish league. Amir Al-Ammari, who usually plays in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, specifically in the ranks of Cracovia, provided a nice assist for an honorary goal for Iraq. It was a 1-1 score, so the result of the match was still open.

Overall, however, it must be given to the Norwegians that they withstood the hardships of the match much better. In the second part of the match, the pace dropped significantly, and the Iraqis no longer had any sporting arguments to chase Norway again.

World Cup 2026. Where and when to watch the greatest football World Cup in history?

From June 11 to July 19, the 23rd FIFA World Cup will be held on pitches in three countries – the United States, Mexico and Canada. An event that will certainly be unique, if only because of its format. For the first time in history, as many as 48 teams will take part in the main tournament.

The title from four years ago is defended by the Argentines. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Lionel Messi and company defeated the French in the final, winning after a series of penalties (4:2). In the history of football World Cups, Brazil has the most titles – as many as five. Four victories in the history of the World Championships belong to the Italians and Germans. The Argentines won three times. More than once, the trophy for winning the World Cup was raised – twice – by the players of France and Uruguay.

The Polish national team was third twice at the World Championships, but those were the old days – we are talking about the events in 1974 and 1982. At the last World Cup, Poles managed to advance to the knockout phase, but were eliminated in the 1/8 finals by the French (1:3).

Matches of the 2026 World Cup can only be watched on Polish Television – on TVP Sport, TVP 1 and TVP 2 and on tvpsport.pl. Additionally, broadcasts will be available in the TVP Sport mobile application and smart TV.
